An essential part of the tie dye process is dipping the fabric into a bucket of water mixed with soda ash fixer. The soda ash raises the ph of the fabric so the dye can react better with the fabric. The end result is bright permanant color in the tie dyes.
How To Tie Dye: Dipping Instructions
1) Dip t-shirt into a bucket of water that has half a cup of soda ash fixer mixed in for every gallon of water. (Wear gloves!)
2) Let the fabric become saturated with the soda ash water, but also be careful not to alter the tie dye pattern.
2) Squeeze out the excess water and set the shirt on a shelf to dry for a few days before it is dyed.
